Morgan Betterton

- Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

ABOUT ME. I have always been fascinated by the complex nature of family dynamics. I truly believe that the quality of our relationships is a key factor in our overall happiness, success and life satisfaction. This is what inspired me to pursue a career in Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition to being a therapist, I am also a certified yoga instructor, health coachand fitness enthusiast

I am a huge proponent of integrative mental health and wellness, as I have personally experienced the power of the mind-body connection. I think it is imperative to incorporate holistic modalities in the healing process.  I like the idea of using therapy as a preventative measure that provides people with tools to help them cope with the challenges of life. I subscribe to the belief that we can all benefit from the honest self-examination, radical acceptance and personal growth that occurs in therapy. My goal is to make therapy accessible and approachable for those who are interested in embarking on this journey.

MY SIGNATURE APPROACH. My therapeutic style is highly person-centered; I endorse a collaborative, individualized, strengths-based approach to therapy that allows clients to find their own answers within the context of a nurturing therapeutic environment. I encourage authenticity, humor and lightheartedness to create a welcoming space for self-exploration and growth. Additionally, my background in clinical hypnotherapy, yoga, emotional freedom technique (EFT) tapping and health coaching allows me to customize my treatment approach to align with each client’s unique needs.

As an a Marriage & Family Therapist, I specialize in helping clients overcome maladaptive patterns in relationships, while also enhancing communication and connection. I deeply resonate with John Gottman’s work and I am certified in level one and level two of The Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. I specialize in teaching couples how to effectively navigate conflict by increasing intimacy, friendship, closeness and understanding. I also use family systems therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, mindfulness, motivational interviewing and EFT tapping in my clinical work.

MY EXPERIENCE. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communication from University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Shortly after, I completed a 12-month program in clinical hypnotherapy where I was introduced to a multitude of holistic modalities that complemented my more traditional undergraduate training.  I then earned my master’s in Counseling Psychology at National University,  and have been providing therapy to individuals, couples and families ever since!

I have also had the privilege of working with a diverse population of clients in outpatient treatment centers, non-profit organizations, schools and private practice settings. I consistently utilize evidence-based therapies along with holistic modalities to deliver the highest quality of care to my clients. In my clinical work, I have focused extensively on relationship dynamics, family systems and attachment issues, yet I am open to exploring any therapeutic topic that my clients bring to session.

I look forward to meeting you and working alongside you!
